75000 Stories About Not Getting a Google Job

My friend sent me a link to Bloomberg on Google Jobs that reports 75,000 people submitted applications to Google last week on the news that the company had announced plan to add staff. Of course I was applying to Google before it was cool.

It occurs to me that a lot of people are going to be disappointed that they'll never hear back on the application they submitted to The Company (besides the auto-responding email).  After all, each candidate takes time to personalize their cover letter, spends time thinking about how they would help move the company forward, and shares with their friends/family news of their application.

75,000 people who are asked by friends a week later... "Did you get the job..?”
75,000 people who are asked family... "What happened with your Google application..?”
75,000 stories on Facebook from otherwise qualified, motivated Brand Ambassadors who are left with a story of disappointment rather than a story with a good ending to talk about.

Google has an opportunity to change the story for a lot of these people, by changing the direction of these stories and creating a different outcome for a significant portion of this audience that leads to a less disappointing place. A t-shirt in the mail, a semi-personalized postcard, a phone call or voicemail to these people can be a game changer in where tens-of-thousands of discussions (that are occurring right now across the web) end up.

In truth, I am hoping for more than a t-shirt in the mail. I hope I'll be a person selected to help Google turn this corner with this audience, and I've offered my help, and applied at jobs.google.com for the job of Director of Employment Marketing, Branding - Mountain View

This series is a skills showcase of Clint Garwood, a senior-level marketing consultant actively campaigning to get a Google job. I am happy to interview for and discuss this and other positions with Google (or with other companies) where my skills and extensive experience can find a good home. I am willing to relocate and/or travel extensively as a condition of any suitable work offer made to me. Thank you for considering me for Your Team. I am looking forward to hearing from you very soon.
